“Collosum”

“Corpus”

How these are made

With a physical first approach to modeling, I draw and hand carve the designs directly on to a wooden Grumpy Goose blank. That’s the reference piece where I use a 3D scanner to scan the stand creating a digital 3D model. I then use various apps and tools like Blender or Nomad Sculpt to make all the necessary adjustments in preparation for printing.

This also allows me to get experimental and completely change things up in geometry or design. The first printed edition Gooses come from just that, experimentation. I took the reference scan from a single 2024 hand carved Goose “Corpus Callosum” which has a left and right split style design. Art Nouveau is on the left, Biomechanical on the right. Digitally, I did brain surgery and split the two apart, and with a little mirror magic and a whole lot of sculpting they make their own unique Gooses that no one has yet.

Once they are all printed out in a few parts, I glue, sand, prime, sand, prime, and hand paint each and everyone myself, trying my best to keep the same level of detail and paint style across all sizes. Finally, they are sprayed down with a sealer at the end for a long lasting finish.

Here, I made a fully accurate and fully detailed flow chart below that definitely doesn’t leave out any crucial steps.

The Printed Editions

But why though? Because ART of course and because I think they’re cool, honestly. I’m making the wood designs anyway, but then they’re gone and out of my hands and I only get to enjoy them for a short time. Now I have them all over my desk, and I love it. In particular I really like the miniatures. Once I had them lined up decoratively in front of some of my gear it started to make sense to me. Having all three sizes definitely feels like a proper set up.

The Future

Don’t panic, the woodys will still be made. Trust me I know how much we all love our Hard Wood. Some of you will only ever want the wood, I get it. Some of you will only every want these 3D printed editions, I get it. Especially if you already have a collection going. There is just something special about a real wood stand to display you favorite headphones.

I also have some good ideas on improving these prints, whether it be through filament choices or just using multiple types of filament. Now, if these prints do well, I’ll be investing in a large format printer, this means not only will two printers be running at once, but the larger size printer means fewer sliced parts and a lot less gluing on these full sized Gooses.

Keychains:

Although these 3D printed editions do not have a cable straps, I’m still including a random 3D printed Goose keychain, these ones will be painted gray as I did not like the look of the bare plastic that I included in the last drop. It’s a nice little upgrade.

Tariffs, and 3D printing:

US folks, there have been some major updates since the last drop. The tariffs were found by your Supreme Court to be illegal! So there are no more tariffs now right? lol, no there totally are, but is it 10% on the whole world? idk, is it 15% on the whole world, maybe…

One good thing with these 3D prints over wood is there shouldn’t be an region stacking tariffs. Previously, I found out that not only would customs (sometimes) charge the full previous Canadian tariff amount of 35%, but also (again only sometimes) stack on top an additional tariff for the county of origin for that specific species of wood, insane. So these 3D prints should in theory only be charged this new 15% max, if they are charged at all, as it is only one single filament material used in it’s creation.

I also don’t have control over how these tariffs are calculated or billed. Please contact your local customs broker for a more accurate, detailed and up to date summary on the official state of the current trade war debacle.

Shipping, same as before, but slightly better.

US folks again, from the last drop I saw Fed-Ex was much faster than the previous drop, but still a little slow. As I had done before I will be personally taking on some of the new increased 2026 shipping costs, otherwise your shipping will remain roughly the same as last drop.

Canada and the rest of the world will still use Canada Post, it’s been ok.

I can’t wait to see you on the drop day and stay safe out there folks.

BIG Etsy Drop and US Tariff

Etsy Drop on Sunday November 2nd, 12pm Noon, EST.

The good news is we’ll have our biggest drop yet, including 39 Grumpy Gooses of Wenge, Bocote, Zebrawood and 1 remaining Bubinga. Just in time for the holiday season.

US Tariffs, US customers please read.

It's been a while since my last Etsy drop, I was hoarding them for Toronto Audiofest. Since then the U.S. government suspended the de minimis exemption on literally all goods entering the US from Canada, the US shipping landscape has changed again for everyone and I want to be fully transparent about what that means for you.

If you’re in the U.S. and place an order, your Grumpy Goose stand will ship via FedEx, who will handle both customs inspection and tariff collection, Canada Post lacks that ability. Fed-Ex also requires a phone number for shipping/delivery purposes. I will message each US buyer for a phone number as needed. There will also likely be some delay after your package leaves my hands, carriers are facing backlogs due to the increased customs processing times.

Once your package crosses the border, you’ll be considered the importer, and as such, you’ll be responsible for any applicable tariff fees. FedEx will collect those charges directly from you and remit them to the US government. As the exporter on my side, I do not pay US imposed tariffs on your behalf, that’s not how international trade law works unfortunately.

How much will the tariff be?
Honestly, I wish I could give you a clear number. The rules are new, confusing, and shifting. Tariff policies are ever changing sometimes on a day-to-day basis. Some shipments might incur no tariff at all if they qualify under USMCA (the Canada/U.S./Mexico trade agreement), while others may face additional fees. The exact amount depends on the U.S. customs classification at the time of import.

All shipments will have a standard shipping rate applied at checkout, the rest of the shipping charge I will personally be covering out of pocket for you. Tracking numbers will also be provided for you to follow. If you have any questions please email me.

Thank you for continuing to support small, handmade, and independent Canadian businesses.

Canada and the rest of the world?

Besides a standard shipping rate change, it’s business as usual.

The Woods

The Purpleheart Gooses came out slightly darker than usual, probably due to the summer heat, which can deepen the tone. Still rich, still vibrant.

Going forward, I won’t be listing which wood type was used for the accent tip in the build, as I have been exclusively using Ebony for over a year now, and it just looks good. So unless it differs in the listing it will only show the main body wood type.

The Lab

I've been doing some extra work with Geshelli Labs. The case designs are for their new line of DAC and Amps coming soon, (not the small purpleheart case, that was a special order) Carved case options like these may also be available along side the uncarved variant, especially upon request.

The Show

I may be attending Toronto Audio Fest this upcoming October, more details to follow once I confirm my attendance. I still have a little more planning to do before I can made a decision to go. If I do attend, I'll have plenty of Grumpy Gooses available for in person purchase.

If not they will all be sold online.
